Brunswick has a Mayor/Council form of government. The councirm of government. The council is composed of two Ward representatives and the Mayor. City police, County sheriff, State Highway Patrol, Chariton County Ambulance Service and the City Fire Department are on call 24 hours a day to serve you.
Kansas City Power & Light provides electricity. City water, trash pickup and municipal sewer systems serves the town. Missouri Public Services supplies natural gas.
The Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce and a number of civic and service organizations active in the town. American Legion and Auxiliary, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Girl Scouts. Boy Scouts, and other organizations creates an active and viable community. Several cemeteries are within the Brunswick area, some of which date over 150 years old..
Agriculture dominates the community's economy. Farming of the fertile alluvial along the Missouri and Grand Rivers and on the gender ridges and smaller creek bottoms supports cash grains. These are exported by road, rail, or river. Cattle and hog production have an equal importance within the greater community. Vegetable, fruit, and even floral production supports numerous retail outlets along Highway 24 corridor. The area is blessed with native pecan groves, giving credence to Brunswick's flaunt as the "Pecan Capital of Missouri."
We brave an affluence of outdoor sports opportunities. Fall waterfowl hunting is tradition along the Missouri and Grand Rivers. Resident deer and turkey abound along the wooded streams, fence rows and hillsides. Quail and rabbit hunting tradition on area farms. Fishing the Missouri and Grand Rivers gives sustainment to big catfish stories. Numerous lakes and ponds are present that beckon outings for all family members.
